Bela Pana

Bela Pana is a very healthy, delicious and traditional drink made of fruit pulps of Bael(Aegle Marmelos) in Odisha. Bael is also known as stone apple or wood apple..Bael tree is considered to be very sacred by Hindus..Bael leaves and the fruit itself are also used in traditional medicines..

 In Odisha we celebrate New Year(Naba Barsha) in  Maha Bishuba Sankranti/Pana Sankranti, which is the first day of  month Baisakh...usually it is 14/15th of month April....In this festival, we used to make pana and worship God...There are 2 types of pana : one is from the fruit Bael which is known as Bela Pana and the other is from sattu(Chhatua) pana...Both tastes delicious and helps in reducing the heat of summer.....Bela Pana is an antidote for sunstroke...so have it and enjoy the summer....:-)

Ingredients :-

  • Ripe Bela - 2 Medium 
  • Ripe Banana - 2 Big, mashed
  • Coconut - 1/2 , grated
  • Rasagola - 5, mashed(U can use chena in place of rasagola)
  • Sugar - 12 tbsp
  • Curd - 1/2 cup, beaten
  • Black Pepper Powder - 1 tsp
  • Green Cardamom Powder - 1 tsp
  • Water

Method :-

  1. Break the Bela and extract all the pulps to a bowl by using a spoon .
  2. Mix some water to these extracted pulps. Mix properly by using your hand.
  3. Now by using a strainer strain all the seeds and unnecessary things.
  4. Keep only the fruit pulps in a big bowl.
  5. Now add banana, coconut, rasagola, sugar, curd, pepper powder, green cardamom powder and water. Do not add much water, the drink should not be very watery..
  6. Mix properly till the sugar dissolves..
  7. Serve it like this or u can also serve it chill by keeping it in refrigerator for sometime..
  8. U can also have the bela pana in a simpler way by adding the pulps of bela with  water, sugar and pepper powder....so have it and enjoy...:-)
