Mugdha Mohanty | 06:40 | | | |
Candies are everyone's favorite and a healthy candy is like the cherry on top of the cake. Amla or gooseberry candy is such a healthy and tasty recipe. Amla, according to Ayurveda  is very good for all 3 doshas(Bata(gas), Pitta(acid), Kafa(cough))...Amla added with sugar, ginger and fennel gives the candy a very heavenly and very exotic taste. I learned this recipe from my sis n law few years back and made a little twist to it to suit my taste bud....So here i am sharing with you this healthy candy to enjoy....:-)

Ingredients :-
  • Amla(Gooseberry) - 30
  • Sugar
  • Water
  • Jinger juice - 1 tsp
  • Fennel powder - 1/2-1 tsp
Method :-
  • Pressure cook amla for one whistle.
  • When pressure releases take the amlas out. Remove the seed and separate the petals.
  • Gently apply ginger juice and fennel powder to the amla pieces.
  • Take sugar in a pan and add water just enough to cover the sugar. Boil it until sugar dissolves, then turn the flame to low. Make 1 string consistency syrup. Switch of the flame.
  • Add amla pieces to the syrup and gently mix. Keep it covered overnight(or at least 8-10 hrs).
  • In morning remove the pieces from the syrup and put them in a plate separately.
  • Dry them for 6-7 days under sunlight. If sunlight is not strong enough then the drying may take 9-10 days.

  • Amla pieces should dried nicely and turned brown in colour.
  • Dust the pieces with sugar powder.
  • Store them in an airtight container.
  • Serve anytime after or before food and enjoy...:-)
*Note :-
  • If the amla pieces not dried properly, it will not last longer.
  • Use 2 cups sugar for 1.5 cups amla pieces.
  • Store the remaining syrup in a bottle inside refrigerator for latter use, you can add some syrup in water and enjoy amla juice anytime.
