Sago Dahibara (Sabudana Dahivada)

Sago dahi bara (sabudana dahivada) is a must to eat healthy chat item during fasting and festival times..well according to me you can have it any time you want as its healthy and a chat.. ;-) Here sago or sabudana and aloo replaced the traditional urad dal for making vadas. Dahi vada is a very famous chat item in all over India and this recipe is a little bit healthy yet tasty version of the original item. Sabudana vada is very famous in Marathi cuisine and here I mixed up Odia cuisine with that to make sabudana dahivada.

Ingredients :-
  • Sago dana/ sabudana/pearl tapioca - 50 gm
  • Boiled potato - 100 gm
  • Green chilli - 2, chopped
  • Roasted cumin-chilli powder - 1 tsp
  • Curd - 1/2 kg
  • Coriander leaves for garnishing
  • Mustrad seed, curry leaves for tempering
  • Oil for deep frying
  • Salt to taste
Method :-
  • Soak the sagoo dana/sabudana for half an hour and then strain properly to remove water.
  • In a big bowl mix together the sabudana, boiled potato, chopped green chillies and salt .
  • Make vada like shape from the above mixture using your hand and moistening it by little water.
  • Heat oil in a kadhai and deep fry the sabudana vadas till light brown in color.
  • Keep aside in a paper towel . 
  • Beat the curd and keep in a big bowl. 
  • Add sabudana vada to curd and sprinkle roasted cumin-chilli powder and black salt on top.
  • In a kadhai heat little oil, then add 1 tsp mustard seed and few curry leaves, when it started spluttering, add it to the dahivadas.
  • Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and serve hot or cold. 
  • I like it both ways and its a real hit at my home.....So enjoy....:-)
#Note:-
  • It will be better if you put the fried vada in water for 5 min, so that it'll be super soft, else it'll take some time.
  • If you want it to be more healthy then u can avoid the deep frying and go for shallow frying the vada.
