This is a very delicious and soo simple  Bengali recipe, in only 5-10 min, u can make this yummy potato recipe.. me and my hubby just fell n love wid this yummy, simple potato curry, the first time we had it at our building's terrace party, from that day i adopted the recipe and now a days its just a common name n my kitchen as i made it many times...One can have it with roti, paratha, poori, luchi, but it tastes best wid poori or luchi..U can also make it during fasting, as this recipe does not need onion or garlic..
So try it and enjoy... :-)

Ingredients :-
  • Potatoes - 4 medium sized
  • Ginger - 1/2'' grated
  • Green chilli - 2-3
  • Nigella seeds/kalonji/kala jira - 1 tsp
  • Turmeric powder - a pinch (optional)
  • Salt to taste
  • A pinch of Sugar
  • Mustard Oil

Method :-
  • Wash, peel and cut the potatoes in small cubes.
  • Cut the green chillies in half.
  • Heat oil in a pan, temper with nigella seeds/kalonji/kala jira and freshly grated ginger.
  • Add potato cubes with a pinch of turmeric powder and salt to taste.
  • Saute for 1 min, pour water and bring to a boil.
  • Traditionally they don't add turmeric powder to this recipe, and the looks of the recipe is white, so my son said it white curry, when he had it in the terrace party.. ;-) but as i love the flavor of turmeric powder, i always add a lil bit and make it light yellow.. :-)
  • Cook it in low-medium flame by covering the lid. Remember to stir in between.
  • Add green chilli and sugar when you are halfway.
  • Continue cover, stir cook routine till potatoes are soft but still retain their shape.
  • There should be just a little water in this curry.

  • Serve this quickest, easiest and yummy curry with luchi/poori/paratha/roti...enjoy.. :-)

Note :-

Sometimes i add sliced or chopped onion and tomatoes to the above recipe and flavor with roasted cumin powder, which also tastes good. U just have to add and saute onion after the tempering and add the tomatoes with the green chillies..U can always garnish with ever delicious coriander leaves... :-)
