Sahi Dal

Like all sahi recipes this Sahi dal dish also requires ghee and milk which gives the simple dal a very delicious unmatched flavor.It's a good choice for all the dal lovers. Even small kids love this dish a lot, so try out and enjoy.


Ingredients :-
  • Arhar Dal - 1/2 cup
  • Water - 1 cup
  • Almond - 6, blanched and cut in to halves
  • Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
  • Cardamom - 2
  • Milk - 1 cup
  • Salt to taste
  • Ghee - 1 tbsp
  • Cumin seed - 1 tsp
  • Onion - 2 medium, finely chopped
  • Garlic - 4, minced
  • Ginger - 1'', minced
  • Tomato - 2 medium, chopped
  • Chili powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Garam masala powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Chopped coriander leaves - 1 tbsp
  • Fried cashew-raisins - 1 tbsp
  • Cream - 1 tbsp
Method :-
  • Wash the dal 2-3 times in plenty of water and soak for 20 min.
  • Combine the dal, almonds, turmeric powder, cardamom, salt and 1 cup of water in a pressure cooker.
  • Mix well and cook for 2 whistles.Allow the steam to escape before opening the lid.
  • Combine the dal and milk, whisk well till smooth and keep aside.
  • Heat ghee in a pan and add cumin seeds.
  • When the seeds crackle, add onion, garlic, ginger and saute on a medium flame for few seconds.
  • Add tomatoes, chili powder, garam masala and mix well.
  • Cook on a medium flame for 2 minutes, stirring in between.
  • Add dal-milk mixture with salt and mix well.
  • Cook on a medium flame for 3 minutes while stirring occasionally .
  • Garnish with chopped coriander leaves, fried cashew-raisins and cream.
  • Serve hot with rice/pulao/roti/naan..enjoy.. :-)
